What exactly is it you do that's different from my regular doctor? I take a very strong
preventative and corrective approach to your health. Specifically, I look at the hormone levels
that decrease as we age and determine if you need supplementation of these hormones to bring
you back to normal physiologic levels. Latest research has linked these declining hormones to
various chronic medical conditions including heart disease, hypertension, dementia, insulin
resistance, osteoporosis, and cancer. Additionally, I look at your body's own unique physiology
in-depth and assess nutritional status and deficiencies, toxins such as heavy metals, oxidative
stress (the "rusting" of the body's physiology), inflammation, and gut health. These abnormalities
can be corrected to get your body functioning at it's optimum level while helping prevent chronic
diseases, thereby ameliorating what we consider the typical aging process.
Why can't my family doctor do this for me? Most family physicians are too busy to take this
approach. Many must see a high number of patients in a short period of time just to make ends
meet. This doesn't leave much time for office visits and the detail needed for this type of medical
approach. As I've stated elsewhere on this website, my full-time job is as an Emergency
Physician; I've started this private practice because I believe in this approach to medicine and
want to help others achieve optimum health during the aging process. Another, and likely more
important reason that your doctor doesn't practice this way, is that as medical students and
residents we were all trained in the pharmaceutical model of medicine prevalent in the United
States today where every disease is treated with a medication. Most medications suppress a
symptom, they don't help fix the problem, and most physicians aren't aware of this approach
because they are too busy practicing within the mainstream model to go "outside the box."
Does your fee include hormone therapy or supplements? No. Our fees only include my
services. Cost for any type of treatment is determined by patient need, pharmacies,
neutraceutical companies, and what your insurance will cover.
Why don't you take insurance? There are several reasons. The goal of insurance companies
is to make money, not guarantee your health. Insurance payouts are driven by protocols and
formulas which most times are a fraction of what your physician or a hospital bills them (this is
part of why your family doctor has to see so many patients just to make ends meet). Insurance
companies, including government sponsored programs like Medicare and MediCal, are
increasingly cutting physician reimbursement to the point where many good physicians providing
needed and excellent services can no longer afford to practice. I don't agree with this approach
and therefore choose not to participate in it. Another reason is that the insurance companies are
behind the times, just like medical education is (refer to the "pharmaceutical model" of medicine
above), and many plans won't cover this approach to medicine. Additionally, as explained in the
"About Us" section, I do not run an office or have a staff. Sending out and tracking insurance
claims is simply not possible. We do, however, provide you with a bill that you can submit to
your insurance company for any reimbursement possible.
Do you take credit cards? Not at this time.
